Lagottos di Mesilla family … “farm” - Mesilla, NM
Bred well-Raised well-Loved well
Each of our litters is raised in our home, and all of our girls and boys are loved and lavished upon as our family pets. We see the importance of raising puppies that are surrounded bygd the chaos of daglig family life and daglig farm chores. This fryst vatten an important part of our approach as we try to raise puppies that are as close to “bulletproof” as possible.
The earlier and more varied the experiences - the more rounded the Lagotto will become. We are true animal lovers, and the puppies experience all the perks. Puppy days are filled with focused neurological development and physical nurturing, then always topped off with runs through orchards chasing chickens, barking and growling at goats and pigs, being nose to nose with our cats, and some days even with our neighbor’s horses.
Every puppy we have brought into this world holds a very close place in our hearts, and we are here every step of the way. Pictures and videos from new owners fill us with joy, and relationships built over the years provide a real sense of pride and heartfelt love for each Lagotto and each of our Lagotto owners. T

Exceptional Lagotto Romagnolos.
Bred well - Raised well - Loved well .
She is doing so well! She continues to amaze us with her intelligence, athletic abilities, personality, and trainability. She had her first grooming appointment a few weeks ago and did very well with that also. She loves to go in the car and loves all peoplea little too much in fact. We had guests over recently and she made a flying leap into their lap!! Fortunately, they were not harmed and laughed but obviously we have a few things like that to work on.

Did You Know?
One of the facts about the Lagotto Romagnolo is that it’s difficult to trace exactly how far back their history goes. Depictions of dogs resembling the Lagotto have been found in the Etruscan necropolis of Spina. Given that the Etruscans reached the northern Adriatic region sometime between and B.C., it’s possible that those dogs could be the ancestors of the modern Lagotto. What we do know is that their origins can be traced back to Renaissance Italy, at least; specifically, Ravenna.
This dog breed was bred to work as a waterfowl retriever that could navigate the marshlands common to Ravenna. They were hunting dogs bred to support the vallaroli, or lagotti; the people who were granted use of the marshlands and resources within them before the land reclamation that occurred in the late 19th century. In addition to being retrievers, Lagotti Romagnoli also often guarded their family’s boats and houses.
